Permissions on Android
Android only
Camera, Photos, and Physical activity permissions are requested when the related feature is used. Android notification permission is requested at first launch.
What it asks for
| Permission | What it is for | When it asks |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Check-in photos, equipment photos, barcode scanning | The first time you use one |
| Photos | Attaching a picture you already have | The first time you attach one |
| Notifications | Rest timer alerts, meal alerts | At first launch |
| Physical activity | Live step counting during cardio | Your first live session |
Android also uses Alarms & reminders, for meal-alert timing.
Denying a permission never blocks a feature
Every feature has a path that does not require the permission.
| If denied | Alternative |
|---|---|
| Camera | Attach a photo from your library, or save without one |
| Photos | Use the camera, or save without a photo |
| Camera, for a barcode | Create the food manually |
| Physical activity | Enter your steps manually |
| Notifications | Everything logs normally. No alerts are delivered |
No data is lost. That part is entered manually.
Turning a permission back on
Open your phone's Settings app. MesoMetric cannot open most of these.
The wording varies between Android versions and manufacturers:
For camera, photos, or activity — Settings → Apps → MesoMetric → Permissions → pick the one you want → Allow.
For meal-alert timing — Settings → Apps → Special app access → Alarms & reminders → MesoMetric.
For notifications — Settings → Apps → MesoMetric → Notifications.
If your phone uses different wording, search its settings for "MesoMetric".
Notification channels can be muted separately
MesoMetric uses two separate notification channels — one for rest timer alerts, one for meal alerts.
Muting either channel in your phone's settings silences those alerts, even though MesoMetric still shows them as on. If only one kind of alert has stopped working, check the channels.
What MesoMetric never requests
MesoMetric requests none of these:
- location
- contacts
- microphone
- health data
- advertising identifier
The microphone is disabled, although the camera is used.
