How to use live step tracking on Android
Android only
This article is for Android phones. If you use an iPhone, see How to use live step tracking on iPhone.
Cardio means walking on a treadmill, riding a bike, or using a rowing machine.
On a treadmill, MesoMetric can count your steps and your time.
This works on the treadmill only. Every other machine is entered manually.
Start a session
- On the Command Center, tap ⚡ LIVE TRACKER.
- Check that LIVE TRACKER is selected, not MANUAL ENTRY.
- Tap START CARDIO SESSION.
- Allow the permission if your phone asks. See below.
The panel shows DURATION and STEPS. DURATION is elapsed time. Both numbers rise as you walk.
Finish
Tap Stop & Log to save the session. MesoMetric stops counting and returns.
Tap Discard to delete the session. There is no confirmation, and the session cannot be recovered.
The permission you need
Android requires permission before an app can count steps. The permission is called Physical activity.
MesoMetric uses it to read your phone's step counter.
Without it, this appears:
MesoMetric cannot count your steps until the permission is granted. To grant it:
- Open your phone's own Settings.
- Find MesoMetric in your list of apps.
- Open its permissions.
- Turn on Physical activity.
If it says UNAVAILABLE
Some phones have no step sensor. The panel then reads UNAVAILABLE and shows:
Your phone cannot count steps. Enter the numbers manually.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| A message about permission | Turn on Physical activity, or enter the numbers manually |
| "Live step tracking isn't available on this device" | Enter the numbers manually |
| "Couldn't start live tracking" | Try again, or enter the numbers manually |
Manual entry requires no permission and no step-counting hardware.
About the number
MesoMetric counts steps only while a cardio session is running.
It does not count your steps all day. It does not read Google Fit.
