How to use live step tracking on iPhone

iPhone only

This article is for iPhone. If you use an Android phone, see How to use live step tracking on Android.

Cardio means walking on a treadmill, riding a bike, or using a rowing machine.

On a treadmill, MesoMetric can count your steps and your time.

This works on the treadmill only. Every other machine is entered manually.

Start a session

  1. On the Command Center, tap ⚡ LIVE TRACKER.
  2. Check that LIVE TRACKER is selected, not MANUAL ENTRY.
  3. Tap START CARDIO SESSION.
  4. Allow Motion & Fitness if your iPhone asks.

Once you move, the panel shows DURATION and STEPS. DURATION is elapsed time.

Finish

Tap Stop & Log to save the session. MesoMetric stops counting and returns.

Tap Discard to delete the session. There is no confirmation, and the session cannot be recovered.

The permission you need

iPhone requires permission before an app can count steps. The permission is called Motion & Fitness.

The iPhone prompt reads:

MesoMetric uses Motion & Fitness data to count steps during live step-tracked cardio sessions.

To change this later:

  1. Open your iPhone's own Settings.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security.
  3. Tap Motion & Fitness.
  4. Tap MesoMetric.

About the number

MesoMetric counts steps only while a cardio session is running.

It does not count your steps all day. It does not read Apple Health.
