How to restore your data

"Restore" means loading a backup back into MesoMetric. Use it on a new phone, or after resetting the app.

Before you restore

Restoring replaces everything currently in MesoMetric. The two are not merged. Back up this phone first if it holds anything you want to keep.

Restore is blocked while a workout is open. Finish or discard it first.

The backup file ends in .zip. A .zip file holds several files together as one file.

Inside it is a data file whose name starts with mesometric-data-export- and ends in .json.

MesoMetric restores from that data file inside the backup, not from the backup file itself. Open the backup file first.

Find your backup file, whose name starts with MesoMetric-Full-Backup-.
Open the ZIP file. On most phones, tap it in your Files app and it opens into a folder. On Android a file manager app may be required.
Open that folder and find the file starting with mesometric-data-export-.
Open MesoMetric and tap Settings.
Tap Restore from backup.
Tap Choose backup file.
Pick the mesometric-data-export- file.
Check the screen. It states how many records will be restored and when the backup was made.
Type RESTORE in the box, in capital letters.
Tap Restore now.

Restore complete appears, stating how many records were restored.

A Data Export (No Image Files) is the data file directly, with no ZIP to open.

It holds no photos. It does not replace a full backup.

Restoring returns all your records:

It does not put your photos back into the app. Check-in photos and equipment photos do not reappear.

The photos remain inside the backup file. Keep that file.

This usually means the backup file was selected instead of the data file inside it.

If a restore fails, the data on your phone is left unchanged.
